Hey. It's ... you! It's been a little while since we last blogged together, you & I ... sorry we've been too busy to write! Tell you what, I promise we'll call you soon. Does that work for you?
It's just that we've been busy with some new material, and while we've been pleased with how quickly this new round of songs is coming to us, it has kept us all very busy. For those of you who have been supporting us for a while now, we thank you for continuing to listen to us play through the same songs as we work on them, and for bearing with us while we work out the new shizzz. We will repay you this fall by bringing out a lot of good new music — some funky & catchy originals and some danceable cover songs are in the works and we are excited to bring them out live. Here's a glimpse into what's new with us right now:
We've been promising "La Grange" to some of you (you know who you are...) and it's almost there. Wait 'til you see Jason rip into Z.Z. Top — I sh*t you not!
Just wait 'til you see my (oh!). Just a heads up for those of you trying to "Hit That Shhh" at the Clubhouse: it's gonna be on like Donkey Kong! Septmber 24 (Saturday) we'll be laying down the funkin'-dance-party-USA-style-BnB at this after-hours bar with beer prices too cheap for me to mention online for fear of a stampede ... if you hang out there you know you want to keep that place to yourself. It's a great time & we've got Spooner Street out there before us getting the crowd pumped on the 24th! Can't wait! :)
"Pale Blue House," a new Jason original with great potential for a studio project, is in the works for debut September or October, and another Dave-written opus known affectionately as "WFS" is close behind.
We've had great shows at places where people dance. The Five Spot crowd sheds its inhibitions and gets down & that only makes us play better. We're looking forward to gigging there with Showin' Tell September 28 and then tearing the roof off there at 11 p.m. on the busiest bar night of the year, the night before Thanksgiving (11/23). For you guys & gals who get down with us between 2nd & 3rd St. groovin' to Stevie Wonder, wait until you get a load of Prince and Parliament — done with that unique BnB flavor.
New songs are coming to us more quickly as we gain more experience playing together. Jeremy's drumming has been phenomenal this summer and fall, and the band has been playing at some venues new to us (The Five Spot, Club 218) with the same swagger it brings to a regular, more comfortable gig like the Clubhouse.
Like the sign says, a band can't go out there and play scared to make mistakes. If we're thinking about all the things that could go wrong (or getting hung up on the little things that go wrong — which will almost ALWAYS happen with live music) we won't play as well as we would if we were to go into every show with the right frame of mind, confidence and looseness. The goal is for everybody to have fun and the more fun we have, the better we play. Mind over matter, baby!
I hope you will be free some time to get down with us this fall. We'd love to see you ... and if you want a free T-Shirt too, check out the trivia question below.
Nice to funk you,
